Celebrating Europe Day

Europe Day is celebrated all over Europe every year on 9 May. It is the occasion for activities and festivities that bring Europe closer to its citizens and the peoples of the Union closer to one another.
Europe Day 2010 marks the 60th anniversary of the "Schuman declaration". On 9 May 1950 Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organised Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations. The proposal, known as the "Schuman declaration", is considered to be the beginning of the creation of what is now the European Union
This year, one of the various events in Ireland will be Open Doors afternoon, European Union House, 18 Dawson Street, Dublin 2, 2.pm to 4.pm
Tea/coffee and an international selection of cakes supplied by the EU Embassies in Dublin to the tune of lively polkas with the North Strand Kontra Band. Entry free of charge.
