Estonian passport and ID-card

Estonian passport and ID-card applicants have to come to the Embassy in person to submit the application, as the Embassy collects fingerprints for the documents.

In case of a child under 15 years old, an application for passport is submitted by his/her legal representative - a parent, guardian or authorized representative of guardianship authority, a child older than 15 years can apply for passport on his/her own.

It may take up to two months for the passport/ID-card to be issued!

Passport renewal

  1. Standard application form
  2. Identity document (ID-card or passport)
  3. Two passport photos size 4x5 cm. Please check the special requirements for the passport photos!
  4. Fee (paid by cash only when submitting the application form), passport €30, ID-card €25, renewal of the passport and ID-card simultaneously €40

Additional documents for persons under 15 years of age

  1. Identity document of a parent or a legal guardian
  2. Parental consent for a passport and/or ID-card application of a minor if the other parent is not an Estonian citizen

Change of name after marriage

NB! In case of a person who wishes to change their name after marriage, then an original marriage certificate is required. Marriage certificate issued by Irish authorities has to be legalised with an Apostille stamp by the Department of Foreign Affairs: http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=268


Initial passport for a child

NB! Children under 6 years old do not have to come to the Embassy in person. An Estonian parent can apply for the child's passport by post.

  1. Standard application form
  2. Birth certificate (Irish births certificates have to be Apostilled by the Department of Foreign Affairs: http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=268 )
  3. Two passport photos in size 4x5 cm. Please check the special requirements for the passport photos!
  4. Copies of both parents' passports. 
  5. Marriage certificate if applicable( Irish marriage certificate has to be Apostilled)
  6. Fee (paid by cash only when submitting the application form) for the child passport €15, application for the passport and ID-card simultaneously €20
  7. Parental consent for a passport and/or ID-card application of a minor if the other parent is not an Estonian citizen.

Additional documents for an initial passport

  1. Unmarried parents are required to submit statutory declaration of father and mother in relation to joint guardianship of a child, except when there is only one parent’s name on the birth certificate.
  2. Parental consent for a passport and/or ID-card application of a minor if the other parent is not an Estonian citizen.


Initial passport for an Estonian Citizen’s passport

  1. Standard application form
  2. Identity document
  3. Documents proving that an applicant is an Estonian citizen (see below)
  4. Two passport photos in size 4x5 cm. Please check the special requirements for the passport photos!
  5. Fee (paid by cash only when submitting the application form), passport €30, ID-card €25, renewal of the passport and ID-card simultaneously €40

 

Documents proving that you are an Estonian citizen:

If you have acquired Estonian citizenship by birth:

  • an original of a document proving that you are an Estonian citizen;
  • an original of a document indicating that at least one of your parents is an Estonian citizen, and verification documents to prove that you are descended from a parent who is an Estonian citizen.

If you have acquired Estonian citizenship by naturalization:

  • certificate of citizenship.

If you have acquired Estonian citizenship by marrying an Estonian citizen:

  • a certificate of marriage which certifies that you married a person before 26.02.1992 who was an Estonian citizen, and
  • an original of a document that proves that your spouse was an Estonian citizen at the time of the marriage.
